Do you know that most people use only a fraction of their mental abilities? It is absurd how much we have in reserve and don’t use. We are all born with an immense power and almost limitless opportunities. The only thing that is stopping us from achieving excellence and true brilliance is our own inability to want more and achieve more. Only a few are persistent enough to actually unlock their full potential but history remembers them, their names are written in the stars. So what is the difference between them and you, the difference is that they have walked the extra mile, they have managed to unlock their full capabilities. But can anyone do it? Well, here are a couple of different ideas.

The brain is like a very complex muscle. If you don’t use it you will lose it, okay. If you are some lazy boy, who doesn’t like to think about anything at all and finds it easier to let someone else decide for him, then you will probably die a poor man with no friends or family, so be smart and make a change not two week from now, not even tomorrow, but today, right now.

There are many things you can do. Reading books is the basic exercise. But more importantly, learn how to read fast, super-fast. If you become a fast reader, you will be able to take in a large amount of information for the fraction of the time, meaning that you can learn faster and use the spare time for something else, writing for example. Writing is also a very good method for keeping your brain healthy. “But what books should I read”, you might ask? Well, start with something that is easy to read but also spend some time reading books on topics like NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming), how to manipulate people, etc. Buy some books on different eastern philosophies, and learn how to mediate. Meditating is like using data cleaning services for your office database. It deletes everything unnecessary and makes the system run better, in this case your mind. Doing different types of mind games like Sudoku is also very, very helpful.

There are different aspects that influence and affect the self-esteem of an individual. It could be a distinguishing factor inherited from your parents or grandparents, which dominates your personality. The experience encountered during the childhood affects the personality and thus influences the self-esteem of a person. Like at work my dad was supposed to input data into software which was used for customer data management, as a result everything he did was much like a software program. He would manage things with absolutely no emotions. Consequently, I had difficulty expressing my feelings and as a result of it I was not welcomed in social circles, which started affecting my self esteem.

Children are strongly affected by the remarks that are made on them in their early age. If the remarks are judgmental or critical, then there are most chances for that child to feel worthless, inferior or rejected. Other factors that influence self esteem are physical ailment, bereavement, bullying, divorce or any other agonizing experience or traumatic situation.

Well, the above mentioned factors are the most reasons for low self-esteem. It is essential to identify the factor that led to a person’s low self esteem. If someone has a low self esteem it’s easily shown outside in their behavior: they start blaming others, over personalization, looking for approval, not ready to take responsibility etc.

There are different skills that could be put into practice to improve self esteem. Being positive and optimistic has been one of the key factors in improving self esteem. Another thing is to learn to say ‘No'for things you really don’t enjoy doing. Keeping a list of achievements and strengths always handy and referring to it often and even writing it down helps improve our self esteem. Some of the personal development skills increase self esteem such as effective communication, confidence building, and assertiveness. It’s important to learn to accept praise and respond properly. It helps one to feel better and valued. It’s important to move with people who have a good self esteem and thus in turn improves your low self esteem.

I have a friend who likes to moan. We all have them, but I swear that Derek is worse than most.

Derek…where do I begin. OK, like this: he lives and works in The big Smoke, like me, and he works at a Commercial property management firm. Now, you’d think that a job like that would have to be simple and easy enough, but Derek says – and I suppose he should know, as he has done everything from rent to students to try and get squatters out of mansions – this is the worst of all of them. The reason why is simple: he has to deal with business people, and he says that these are often the most aggressive and difficult. In short, they want everything for nothing and even though they have a fair bit of money, they would rather give their right arm that actually spend a penny of it.

The other day I got so fed up with Derek blabbering on about his work woes that I suggested I come along with him one day at work so that I could see how bad it was for myself. It’d mean getting a day off myself, indeed, but I was willing to give up a day’s holiday just so I could see Derek fall flat on his face.

So we left, and the next meeting was very similar. The third meeting wasn’t too bad, but the woman was pushing for such a cheap deal that it was ridiculous

I arrived at his place at 9am and we went to our first meeting. It was all going fine until the man just stood up midway through what Derek was telling him – and to give him his due he was being very reasonable – and marched off, telling us to get out and that he wasn’t paying that much for the property Derek had found for him. So we left, and the next meeting was very similar. The third meeting wasn’t too bad, but the woman was pushing for such a cheap deal that it was ridiculous. I was eating my words, was what was happening. I was seeing, finally, that I had been wrong all along: Derek really did have a tough job and something very much to moan about…I felt like an idiot for not believing him all this time. OK, so a lot of the time he talks a load of rubbish, but maybe I should have known that this time would be different? Who knows.

The motto of this story? Don’t always distrust your friends. Sometimes, just sometimes, they may just be right…

Why do we need big cities? This question has been troubling me for quite some time and I am beginning to conclude that there is no affect on suffer the same. What do villagers enjoy that city dwellers do not? Well, how about clean air, lots of open space, more fun and joy in life, a simpler and happier lifestyle, lack of complication in life and more job satisfaction when they grow stuff for their own consumption.

This may sound like an oversimplification for some but the truth is that almost all individuals who live in cities are unhappy with one or the other aspect of their lives. Those who like art cannot learn from nature because we are surrounded by concrete structures. We attend art tuition but do not have the money to pay for expert advice. Our efforts to earn more money takes us away from our simple lifestyle.

We spend more hours working in the office and less hours with our family. When we do have money, we spend it on material objects that provide fleeting joy. At the end of our lives, we feel that we have wasted all these years by running something that never mattered.

One of these days, I am going to chuck everything and walk into the nearest village I can find. Life may not be perfect there but it certainly is going to be an improvement over the steady and boring routine that we follow here. There is only so much smog and pollution that an individual can tolerate in life.

Here are 5 mistakes most actors make when trying to land a gig.

Mistake 1. Failing to add an image to the back of the CV or print posters.

You can expect your bookings to increase by 50% whenever you add a picture. An agent may spend up to a minute longer reading through your credits and looking at your picture, as opposed to the usual 4-7 short seconds, should you decide to add a small photograph to the back of the resume.

Mistake 2. Using the wrong sized font for your telephone number and name.

A 22-36 point font should be used for your name. It ought to be large since you need the name to be noticed and recalled. If they can recall you, they will contact you. The four most important items of information on the resume: photograph, email, name, and phone number. This is so they don’t forget who you are, how you looked, and how to get in touch with you. You could have a million credits and a stunning headshot however if they can’t get through to you, you may never get a job!

Mistake 3. Failing to add your university or college degree in addition to any professional theatre training.

It must be placed under the category “education”. Acting lessons in addition to dance, speech, and voice need to be under “training”.

Mistake 4. Failing to match the proper category to the proper market.

If you are auditioning for jobs around L.A., choose “TV/Film” as the best category. If you are auditioning for jobs around N.Y. choose “Theatre” as the best category.

Mistake 5. Failing to list sports or athletics at the end of the resume.

List your sports pursuits first in the “Abilities/Skills” section to exhibit to the casting agent/director that you’re fit as well as capable of actively perform in the television series or commercial. This may include: golfing, aerobics, jogging, and yoga. Following sports, include dialects and other abilities. Prevent saying “have license, passport, evening dress, tuxedo, car, and so on. “-all of those descriptions YELL “I’m an extra!” and that is exactly what they will contact you for.

I’ve always liked graffiti. Not in a huge way. I never got into it, and never even tried it, but I may have been tempted had circumstances allowed. In a way, though, I am glad I didn’t, because the other day I bumped into someone who had got into it in a big way, and the effect on him and his life was anything but admirable.

Jamie had fallen in with a group who were painting trains once or twice a week. A skilled artist, he’d left college, found a part-time job and moved in with these guys. That was all it took, and pretty soon Jamie was one of the main crew – if he’d started out as a beginner you couldn’t tell now. And as his work improved, so the risks grew greater still.

For a laugh one day, Jamie decided to paint a stupid slogan on a brand-new train. The slogan was ’holiday villas in spain ’and the train was literally brand-new out of the manufacturers. It even smelt new, like an enormous plastic toy.

Then the next week the Police arrived at his house, confiscated his computer, his mobile, a load of other stuff. The next time they arrived it was to arrest him. The fine once it’s gone to court? Somewhere in the region of £9,500…

I don’t know how Jamie will pay it off, but I know this much. From the look in his eyes it was clear that he knew he’d done wrong that last time. I highly doubt he’ll be doing anything like that ever again.

Since I know a little about these things I told him that any business that does not have one is certainly missing out on a great opportunity to reach a wide market.

It is the dream of anyone who starts a new business to get a pool of customers who would bring in more customers. Well, this is what happens when Facebook is included in the scenario. Social networking sites are helping businesses to grow in ways you could have never imagined just 10 years back.

Facebook offers you a chance to find and get customers you otherwise would not have acquired. The power of word of mouth is exponential in social networking sites, so if one person likes you, you can expect a crowd coming in to check you out.

The feedback you get through this is instant and real. This gives you an opportunity to improve by correcting mistakes.

Facebook has its own advertisement program like Google Adsense. The ads are aimed at users based on their likes, and this is a good way to reach out to them. Your budget will decide the PPC program. A way to get more web traffic to your site would be to post links on advertisements.

It also helps you to retain a customer by allowing you to build a relationship with them. It is easier to communicate with them, update them and to lend a personal touch to your dealings with them. </SPAN

Surviving in the East end of London without losing your mind is a tricky balancing act that takes a skilful mix of perseverance, determination and outright guts. So when you leave the house, always be sure to take the following things with you:
1) Magazines for your train rides: it doesn’t matter what magazines. You might have a magazine about Antivirus software knocking about, or maybe one on motorbikes. You don’t even need to own a motorbike, and the magazine doesn’t even need to interest you. It just needs to act as something you can hide behind when…
2) Someone sits next to you on the train and starts talking to you without your permission: if I was the king of this land, I’d make it illegal to sit down next to someone and talk to them unless that person gave them their permission. Why? Because it would eradicate awkward conversations, which I seem to have every time I leave the house…
3) A banana or something to eat: bananas are good, though, because you can use them like a weapon, which is amazing. How many foods can double as a gun, a weapon, and something to eat when you’re bored on the tube?
4) A lighter. Everyone knows that just when you don’t have a lighter, someone will come asking for one. Make someone’s day and carry a lighter. You never know, you might even strike up a conversation. Two strangers haven’t struck up one of those since about 1953 so make sure it’s a good one and be sure to savour it.

Sadly, over the years, volunteering has picked up somewhat of a stigma, and now it’s hard to find someone who isn’t aware of that fact. It’s all about money, of course. Nobody wants to work for nothing, yet working for nothing is the only way to keep many charities alive and prospering doing their fantastic work.

So, after a visit to a local Oxfam, here are a number of ways that volunteering can be good and useful to you:

1) It gets you out and socializing with people. This is a big one, and fantastic if you are new to somewhere and yet to make friends.

2) You can learn new skills and then put these on your CV: this is fantastic because employers really are interested in this kind of thing.

3) You’re making a difference: no, you’re not making loads of money designing hybrid cars , and yes, sometimes the work isn’t exactly glamorous, but that doesn’t mean that you’re not helping people out. By becoming a volunteer you’re continuing a tradition which gives people with no chance at least some hope. This is pretty amazing, don’t you think?

4) Discounts: there is loads of cool stuff in charity shops around the world. With your staff discount, you get stuff for virtually NOTHING!

5) Obtain a qualification: this is pretty fantastic as a reason. By signing up with a volunteer job there are many avenues for progression. Some of which may even lead to a managerial certificate that will make you stand out from the crowd when it comes to applying for a part-time or full-time job in the future.

When you think about it, the World is a very scary and dangerous place to live, but not how you might first think. I’m not talking about the fact that the roads are full of cars going fast enough to kill you, or that we all regularly step into metal death cannisters that rocket through the air carrying loads of people, or the fact that in certain parts of the World, crocodiles creep around at night devouring villagers and that’s just “something you have to get used to”. I’m talking about what happens anywhere in London when it rains. I am speaking, of course, about the horror that is umbrellas in a crowded place.

We’ve all been in this situation: walking down the street, minding our own business, when some psycho with an umbrella comes out of nowhere, aiming the spikes on it for your FACE. Why do umbrellas even HAVE spikes? That much is a mystery. But seeing as we will never rid the planet of these lethal weapons, here are a few tips on how to use them safely and what not to do, please.

1) Don’t be a ridiculous sceptic. Oh no, you’re going into apple mac repair to pick your computer up, so you better take your umbrella down, thus thrusting the end of it in someone’s face as they walk past the shop! Come on now, people believed it was bad luck back when we all thought fairies existed at the bottom of our gardens. Don’t be a dork, OK? Just walk in with it open, find a safe place and take it down there.

2) You don’t need it open when it looks like it might rain: probably the most annoying thing that people do, can’t you wait until it actually rains? This would cut the accidents down.

3) Saw off those spiky bits, please? There’s just no need for them, and remember, some people are taller than you are, so you may need to hold your death weapon a bit HIGHER than them as they walk past.
