Risk averse?
Life is essentially about taking risks. Talking to your new school friends aged 5. Asking out Sarah after the biology class aged 14. Deciding to give up working in the office after watching the live comedy show at the club in town and finally agreeing with her indoors to have a child before you are 30.
Sometimes the risks outweigh the rewards mind. Have you seen free climbing? Some fella with a chalk bag and a lot of guts climbing a rock face with no rope protection and nothing but his skill against the will of gravity. He evidently feels the joy of the climb and the rush of adrenaline is worth the risk he is taking on. Me, I have a different view of that.
I like my risk balance set somewhere nearer the center of the scale.
You don’t want to be too risk averse mind otherwise you achieve nothing. Yoritomo Masasue, Mantis clan mercenary and Samurai warrior, is famously quoted as saying ’Fate has no place for humble men, you must force destiny to hear you’. He knew you had to go grab life. He most likely also knew you pick your battles wisely and mitigate against disaster striking.
So you also need select with care.
I am not of an addictive nature and I like to play no limit Texas holdem poker. It is a game that reflects life really well. It is a game of risk and reward, stress management and pressure application.
Maybe you will prefer to race fast cars strapped in and raring to go.
Whatever you choose just make sure you do choose something. Risk has it’s downside but no risk at all has no redeeming features.
